A 14-month-old boy died in Sharjah after being struck by a driver who sped away from the scene, authorities said, following an investigation that began outside the child’s home earlier this month.
In a Gulf News report, police revealed that the accident happened on November 3 at about 4pm, moments after the toddler managed to step outside while his siblings remained indoors. His two-year-old brother, who saw the impact, rushed to inform their mother. The father was away at work when the incident occurred.
Emergency teams were notified through the Sharjah Police Operations Room, sending a patrol from Wasit Police Station to begin inquiries. The child was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Investigators said the motorist hit the boy and immediately fled. A specialised team was assembled to track down the suspect, who was later identified and arrested. Police confirmed that the driver has since been referred to Public Prosecution for further action.
