Deep Blue Aerospace, a leading firm in China’s commercial space sector, has started selling tickets for a suborbital spaceflight scheduled for 2027. Priced at 1.5 million yuan (P12.2 million), the tickets will offer passengers the experience of five minutes of zero gravity. To secure a seat, customers must pay a deposit of 50,000 yuan (P406,804).
The suborbital flight will last around 12 minutes, taking passengers to space without entering orbit. Deep Blue Aerospace, which aims to develop reusable rocket technology to lower costs, is part of China’s growing space industry, as the country seeks to compete with international players like Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
In 2023, China made 26 commercial space launches, highlighting its rapid advancements in the field. CAS Space, another Chinese firm, also announced plans to offer space tourism flights by 2028. Meanwhile, China’s official space program has set its sights on sending crewed missions to the Moon by 2030 and establishing a lunar base.
