Tiangco urges OFWs to vote wisely in 2025, says right leaders can solve migrant woes

Navotas Representative and Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas campaign manager Toby Tiangco called on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to vote for candidates who will champion their rights, as overseas absentee voting kicks off this weekend.

“Your vote matters now more than ever,” Tiangco said in a statement on Thursday. “The challenges facing OFWs today — contract violations, rising costs, family separation — can only be solved if we put the right leaders in place.”

He stressed that casting the right vote could bring about concrete solutions to long-standing OFW issues. “Giving praise to OFWs is not enough, they need concrete action. That begins with representation in the Senate that truly understands their struggles and will push policies to uplift their lives,” he added.

Overseas voting runs from April 13 to May 12, with more than 1.2 million registered Filipino voters abroad, including nearly 190,000 in the UAE alone, based on Commission on Elections (Comelec) data.

Tiangco said their coalition, Alyansa, is committed to pushing key reforms for OFWs such as better consular access, legal protection, reintegration assistance, and local job creation to ease forced migration. He emphasized: “Our kababayan abroad may be far from home, but their votes carry the weight of millions of families they continue to support.”
