Throwing trash from vehicles in UAE? Get ready to pay AED1,000

The Directorate of Traffic and Patrols of Abu Dhabi Police has issued a stark reminder: a Dh1,000 fine and six black points on the driver’s licence will be levied on those caught throwing trash out of car windows. The warning came during an event called ‘Our City is Beautiful’, organised by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality at Rabdan Park, Zayed City.

The event was aimed at emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic rules and maintaining the city’s cleanliness. Partners included Shakhbout City Schools, Al Ahlya Hospital, Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company, and Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority.

Dean Mahmoud Youssef Al Balushi, Director of the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, urged the community to prioritise traffic safety. Special attention was given to the risks associated with e-scooters. Al Balushi cautioned families and children against using e-scooters on public roads, recommending they be used only in designated areas with necessary safety equipment.

This warning comes on the heels of a report from Dubai Police, revealing five deaths and 29 injuries from e-scooter related accidents in the emirate over the past eight months. Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui stated that over 10,000 fines were issued to riders during this period, with 32 accidents attributed to “improper use” of e-scooters.

Assistant Tariq Muhammad Hamidan from the Public Relations Department highlighted the importance of supervising children, especially during the winter vacation, and protecting them from e-scooter dangers. He also underscored the significance of preserving Abu Dhabi’s appearance by not discarding waste while driving.
