Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac announced on Thursday that three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) tragically lost their lives in a fire that engulfed a building in Mangaf, Kuwait, on Wednesday.
“The unfortunate news is that the three [OFWs] are identified as fatalities in [a] hospital in Kuwait. We are in touch with the families of all affected OFWs, including those in the ICU [intensive care unit] and the three fatalities,” Cacdac stated.
In a show of support, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Chief Arnell Ignacio is also maintaining close communication with the families of the victims.
The blaze, which erupted at 4:30 a.m. (Kuwait time; 9:30 a.m. Philippine time), claimed the lives of 49 people and left many injured, according to the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry’s data from Wednesday night (Philippine time).
