Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced three Pakistani men to one year in prison followed by deportation for posing as Dubai Police criminal investigators to carry out an armed robbery at a gold trading company’s office.
According to a Khaleej Times report, the court found them guilty of theft, unlawful entry, and impersonating law enforcement officers to intimidate and steal from two Indian nationals at the company’s office in Naif on March 7, 2024.
According to court records, the trio, along with an unidentified accomplice, stormed the office as the first victim was unlocking the door. They pushed him inside, assaulted him, and stole his Samsung S32 Ultra phone worth Dh3,100. Shortly after, a second victim entered the office and was also robbed of his iPhone 14 Pro.
The criminals then seized Dh322,000 in cash from the office drawer and took the surveillance camera recording device before fleeing.
Dubai Police launched an investigation after the victims reported the crime, leading to the suspects’ arrests. Officers recovered Dh34,305 from three of them. The men confessed to splitting the stolen money among themselves and their accomplice.
Despite denying the charges in court, they were convicted and ordered to collectively pay Dh290,795 in fines. Failure to pay will result in additional prison time at a rate of one extra day for every Dh100 unpaid.
A fourth defendant, accused of acting as a lookout, was acquitted due to a lack of evidence.
