Authorities at Clark International Airport intercepted three Filipinos on Monday night who were allegedly being trafficked for illegal employment in Cambodia, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) confirmed.
The individuals—two women aged 30 and 33, and a 33-year-old man—were initially booked as tourists bound for Malaysia via Scoot Airlines. However, BI officers flagged inconsistencies in their answers during questioning.
A deeper probe revealed that the trio had been recruited by a contact linked to one of the women’s former partners. They admitted they were promised jobs as customer service representatives with free airfare and a salary ranging from ₱40,000 to ₱50,000 a month.
But according to the BI, the three did not have any employment contracts and were told that job details would only be handed to them once they reached Malaysia. The victims also disclosed that their recruiter instructed them to pretend to be tourists in order to slip past immigration checks.
All three are now under the custody of the Clark Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking for further investigation, while authorities move to file charges against the recruiter.
