Filipino comfort food has once again made waves internationally, as three classic local porridges secured spots in TasteAtlas’ list of the world’s best-rated porridges for 2025.
Arroz caldo, a chicken and rice dish simmered in ginger broth, emerged as the Philippines’ top entry, landing in second place worldwide. The online food and travel guide praised its rich flavors enhanced by calamansi, fried garlic, and scallions, also naming popular spots like BusyBee in Zamboanga, Café Via Mare, Razon’s of Guagua, Italianni’s, and Goto King among the best places to try it.
Lugaw, a staple rice porridge often served to the sick and enjoyed as a breakfast or snack, ranked 10th place. Described by TasteAtlas as an “ideal base” for various meats and seasonings, it was recommended at Quezon City’s Lugawan Republic, Love Desserts, and Davao Dencia’s Restaurant.
Completing the Filipino trio is champorado, the sweet chocolate rice porridge, which claimed the 19th spot. Traditionally made with glutinous rice, cocoa, and sugar, the dish was recommended at Max’s Restaurant, Kanto Freestyle Breakfast, Tapa King, and The Sunny Side Café.
Topping this year’s global list was Indonesia’s Bubur Ayam, while other strong entries included Georgia’s Elarji, Romania’s Taci şi înghite, and Ukraine’s Banosh.
This recognition adds to the growing list of international nods for Filipino cuisine. Earlier in 2025, TasteAtlas also named tortang talong as the world’s second-best egg dish and recognized classic restaurants like The Aristocrat and Café Adriatico in its top 100 rankings.
TasteAtlas, which bills itself as an “encyclopedia of flavors,” highlights traditional dishes, ingredients, and authentic restaurants worldwide, continuing to put Filipino food on the global map.
