Three Cabinet officials to oversee PH while Marcos visits India for key agreements
As President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. heads to India for a five-day state visit, three high-ranking Cabinet officials have been designated to handle government affairs in his absence.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed via Viber that he, along with Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III, will serve as caretakers during the President’s trip.
Marcos is visiting New Delhi and Bangalore upon the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The official visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties, with at least six agreements set for signing. These will cover areas such as law, culture, and science and technology.
One of the main goals of the visit is to push for deeper maritime cooperation between the Philippines and India, amid growing regional concerns on maritime security.
The President’s itinerary includes a bilateral meeting with Modi, courtesy calls on Indian President Droupadi Murmu and other senior officials, and an engagement with the Filipino community in New Delhi.
