The Filipino queen maker making waves in Dubai’s pageant industry

In the competitive world of event management and pageantry, Polie Mari Manalo has carved out a space for himself, proving that hard work and passion can turn dreams into reality. Originally from Meycauayan City, Bulacan, the 32-year-old event project manager and creative director has made a name for himself in Dubai’s pageant and events industry.

Polie’s journey into the world of events and pageantry began early. “I started competing in makeup competitions during high school at A.F.G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School,” he recalls to The Global Filipino Magazine. Over the years, his skills and experience flourished, allowing him to manage major local and international pageants. He played a pivotal role in the first-ever Miss Universe UAE and had the honor of coaching the first Emirati woman to win an international crown. His credentials also include directing Miss Planet International’s second edition, serving as creative director for Miss Grand Russia 2023, and Miss Planet Ukraine 2024.

In 2022, Polie took a leap of faith and moved to Dubai in search of bigger opportunities. “The pandemic was tough for me, as it was for many people around the world. I realized that it wasn’t too late to try something new,” he shares. Encouraged by his partner and family, he made the decision to work abroad. “One day, a great friend of mine asked me to travel to Dubai, and I just said yes. That decision led me to where I am today, and the rest is history.”

Before stepping into Dubai’s event scene, Polie had a diverse career. “I worked as a makeup artist, which allowed me to explore my creative side. I also gained experience in BPO companies, where I honed my skills in communication and customer service. In addition, I had my own events team catering to weddings, debuts, and corporate functions.” This well-rounded experience helped him transition seamlessly into his current roles.

Now thriving in Dubai, Polie finds immense fulfillment in his work. “As an event project manager and creative director for pageants, I enjoy the creativity and challenge that comes with bringing events to life. I love working on large-scale projects, coordinating every detail, and seeing everything come together perfectly.” His passion for pageantry also shines through his work. “I’m passionate about helping contestants shine and creating memorable experiences. The combination of creativity, organization, and impact in both roles is what I truly enjoy.”

Working abroad has broadened Polie’s perspectives. “It has given me the opportunity to work with diverse people from different backgrounds, teaching me how to adapt to various work environments,” he says. His career has also allowed him to be involved in prestigious global events, something he deeply values.

But the journey wasn’t always smooth. “It was hard to land the perfect job, especially when I first arrived in Dubai and didn’t know anyone in the industry I wanted to be in,” he admits. The experience taught him a valuable lesson: “Connections are incredibly important. You should never burn bridges. Building and maintaining strong relationships is key to growth and success.”

Looking ahead, Polie envisions continuing his career while also mentoring aspiring professionals. “I plan to expand my career by mentoring the next generation of pageantry professionals and inspiring others to achieve their dreams. Eventually, I want to establish my own pageantry studio to offer services that will help people succeed in this industry and beyond.”

To fellow overseas Filipinos facing struggles, Polie offers words of encouragement: “Don’t lose sight of your goals, no matter how tough things get. If you lose hope, always go back to the reason why you’re there in the first place. Stay focused and trust that the struggles you face are part of your growth. The Lord will never give you a challenge that you can’t surpass. Just lift everything to Him, and He will grant it to you in perfect timing.”

Reflecting on his journey, Polie emphasizes perseverance. “I’ve been fortunate enough to experience many ‘firsts’ here in Dubai—handling the first Miss Universe UAE and coaching the first Emirati woman to win an international pageant. My journey has shown me that with passion, hard work, and a bit of courage, anything is possible.”
