Broadway legend Lea Salonga voiced her support for Gwen Apuli, a member of the P-pop girl group BINI, after Apuli expressed her frustration on social media about fans intruding on their privacy by visiting their rooms to request photos.
Salonga, famous for her role in “Miss Saigon,” emphasized the importance of respecting personal boundaries. “Say it with me. Respect boundaries,” she wrote in a caption accompanying a screenshot of Apuli’s post. She further added, “Hate me all you want for beating the drum loudly about this (I’ll gladly be the villain in your story), but the entitlement and disrespect are just too much! The ladies of BINI are human beings!”
Apuli’s concerns were echoed by her fellow BINI members, Colet Vergara and Aiah Arceta, who shared their thoughts on the incident. This plea for privacy comes after several previous encounters where BINI members felt their personal space was invaded by overly enthusiastic fans.
Earlier this year, Apuli’s fellow member, Aiah Arceta, had a “disturbing” encounter with a man at a bar in Cebu, and Maloi Ricalde was mobbed by fans while dining with her family in Lemery, Batangas. These incidents prompted Star Magic head Lauren Dyogi to urge fans to respect the group’s privacy.
Salonga’s stance on fan boundaries became a topic of conversation in July 2023 when she confronted fans who entered her dressing room without permission to ask for photos, reaffirming her belief in maintaining clear boundaries.
