Residents of the UAE are gearing up for a significant drop in temperatures, along with unpredictable weather patterns in the coming days. Forecasts suggest a cool down in Dubai, with temperatures expected to fall by 2 to 4°C until Friday, settling around 25°C during the day and dipping to 17°C in the evenings. Some parts of the Emirates might also experience light rain.
In a recent interview with Khaleej Times, Dr. Ahmed Habib of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) explained, “We anticipate medium to low cloud cover across the UAE, both over land and sea, starting from Thursday. This change is due to a rapidly moving low-pressure system heading westward across the region, bringing with it a chance of rainfall.”
Particularly, the Ras Al Khaimah region is likely to see increased cloud cover, raising the probability of significant rainfall, especially in the northern parts of the UAE. Dr. Habib also noted that the system would likely move eastward, affecting areas in Fujairah before exiting the country by Friday morning with light rain.
This weather shift follows heavy rains in Dubai earlier in November, which caused water-logging in various parts of the emirate and led to challenges for drivers navigating through flooded roads in Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain. Social media also captured scenes of water streaming through wadis in the Northern Emirates, prompting authorities to issue warnings against venturing into these areas during heavy rainfall.
With the end of the autumn season approaching, Dr. Habib highlighted that the UAE is transitioning into winter, officially starting around December 22-23. He remarked, “We have been experiencing slightly higher than average temperatures lately. However, we anticipate sporadic drops in temperature leading up to the colder months of January and February.”
