The world’s tallest and shortest women, Rumeysa Gelgi and Jyoti Amge, marked Guinness World Records Day with an unforgettable meeting in London.
The duo shared afternoon tea at The Savoy Hotel, where they bonded over their mutual love for beauty, fashion, and self-care, according to a statement from Guinness World Records (GWR).
“Meeting Jyoti for the first time was wonderful,” Rumeysa said, calling her “the most gorgeous lady.” Jyoti expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m used to looking up and seeing people taller than me, but I was so happy to look up today and see the world’s tallest woman.”
Standing at 215.16 cm (7 ft 0.7 in), Rumeysa holds the record as the tallest woman living, while Jyoti, at 62.8 cm (2 ft 0.7 in), is the shortest woman. The height difference of 152.36 cm (5 ft) added a unique dynamic to their interaction, which Rumeysa noted made eye contact a challenge but “great” nonetheless.
Rumeysa, diagnosed with Weaver syndrome, also holds several other records, including the largest hands on a woman and the longest back. Jyoti, known for her role in American Horror Story: Freak Show, has been celebrated as the shortest woman since 2011.
Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday emphasized the significance of the meeting: “Guinness World Records is all about celebrating differences. By bringing together these two amazing, iconic women, they can share their perspectives on life with each other and with us.”
