Taiwan to require online arrival cards starting October 1

Travelers heading to Taiwan will soon need to complete their arrival cards online as the government phases out paper forms.

The National Immigration Agency (NIA) announced that beginning October 1, all visitors must fill out the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) electronically before entering the country. The move aims to speed up immigration clearance and eliminate the use of paper landing cards.

The online form must be completed within three days before arrival. It can be accessed through a designated link or via QR codes available at airport and seaport check-in counters. Travelers can choose between Chinese or English, with additional guidance available in Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian.

Personal details, including a photo of the passport data page, are required. For families or group travelers, one person can submit forms for up to 16 individuals, and entries may be reviewed and edited later.

After submission, confirmation is sent automatically to the traveler’s email, though it does not need to be shown at immigration. Officials will simply scan the passport to verify TWAC registration.

The service is free of charge and mandatory for foreign nationals entering with a visitor visa or under the visa-exemption program, Hong Kong and Macao residents with multiple-entry permits, mainland Chinese tourists holding multiple-entry permits, and nationals without household registration who do not hold a Resident Certificate.
