Fans of the Nintendo Switch can look forward to news about its successor by the end of Nintendo’s fiscal year, according to company president Shuntaro Furukawa. This announcement came through a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015,” Furukawa stated.
However, Furukawa clarified that the upcoming Nintendo Direct in June will not include information about the new device. “We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation,” he noted.
Nintendo’s fiscal year concludes in March 2025. The Nintendo Switch, launched in 2017, revolutionized handheld gaming and saw a surge in sales during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is known for hosting iconic games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The Switch has seen few major updates in recent years, with the most notable being models featuring revised OLED screens.
