Dubai witnessed a total of 107 road accidents in the past eight months, resulting in three fatalities and injuries to 75 individuals, as reported by Dubai Police on Friday.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the general department of traffic at Dubai Police, identified swerving as the main culprit behind these accidents.
He highlighted incidents of drivers making sudden lane changes, particularly near intersections or highway exits, which were captured by the smart systems deployed throughout the emirate’s streets.
From January to August this year, the police recorded 529,735 lane violations through smart traffic monitoring systems and radars. Al Mazrouei emphasized that failing to adhere to mandatory lanes would result in a fine of Dh400. He pointed out that some lanes are exclusively reserved for specific vehicles, such as buses and taxis, and violations would also attract fines.
The director underlined the critical role of smart systems and modern technologies in detecting and deterring traffic violations.
Al Mazrouei also appealed to drivers to abide by the traffic regulations, adhere to the mandatory lanes, and avoid sudden lane changes to prevent serious accidents and subsequent penalties.
