A 33 years old and a resident of Novaliches, Quezon City, was apprehended in a joint entrapment operation conducted by personnel from the Department of Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (DMW-MWPB) and the Mandaluyong City Police.
The suspect, Marjorie Almarez Diaz, was caught red-handed receiving “boodle money” from a complainant whom she had promised a job as a fruit picker in Japan, with a monthly salary of P77,000.
Upon confirmation that the name given by the suspect to the complainant was not licensed by the DMW to offer jobs abroad, the complainant promptly informed the DMW-MWPB about the scheme.
According to the complaint, the suspect assured the victim of deployment to Japan upon payment of P13,500 as a downpayment for “marketer’s fee” and “processing fee” for the certificate of employment and other documents.
Currently detained at the CIDG detention facility in Camp Crame, the suspect faces charges of illegal recruitment and estafa. DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Leo Cacdac assured that they would closely monitor the case and provide free legal assistance to the victims.
DMW also appeals to other victims of Almarez to come forward and contact the DMW-MWPB office. Victims can also send a message to the DMW-MWPB Facebook page to file a case.
