A recent survey on living and working abroad has placed the Philippines among the top countries for expats in 2023. According to the latest Expat Insider survey conducted by InterNations, the Philippines secured the eighth spot in the list of best places for expats.
The survey, which gathered insights from around 12,000 expats residing in 172 countries and territories, assessed various factors including the ease of settling in, personal finances, work, and overall quality of life. Mexico, Spain, Panama, Malaysia, and Taiwan emerged as the top five countries for expats, followed by Thailand, Costa Rica, the Philippines, Bahrain, and Portugal.
Commenting on the survey results, a spokesperson from Conde Nast Traveler noted, “We suspect being near some of the world’s most beautiful islands probably makes expats pretty happy.” The Philippines ranked third in the survey’s ‘Personal Finance’ index, with expats citing an enviable cost of living and affordable housing.
Mexico’s consistent performance in the top ranks was highlighted, with the country maintaining its position in the top five since the survey’s inception in 2014. Expats praised Mexico for its local friendliness, ease of making friends, affordable housing, and promising career opportunities.
Similarly, expats expressed feeling at home and content in Spain, making it the second-best country for them worldwide. Panama, ranking third on the list, was lauded as an easy destination to settle in.
