Survey: 6 in 10 Filipinos back arrest of Duterte co-perpetrators in drug war

A recent survey shows that a majority of Filipinos support the arrest and possible prosecution of individuals believed to have assisted former President Rodrigo Duterte in his controversial war on drugs.

According to results released by WR Numero on Wednesday, 61% of Filipinos agree that Duterte’s alleged co-perpetrators should also be transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Only 21% opposed the idea, while 18% said they were unsure.

“The nationwide survey revealed that 61 percent of Filipinos agree that former President Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged collaborators should also be brought before the ICC,” the group stated.

Support was highest in South Luzon (75%) and Metro Manila (73%), while resistance to the idea was most significant in Mindanao, where 42% opposed such arrests.

Although most respondents refrained from naming individuals who could potentially face an ICC arrest warrant, 20% of those who did identified Senator Bato dela Rosa.

The poll, conducted from March 31 to April 7, follows a previous WR Numero survey showing 62% of Filipinos believe Duterte himself should face trial before the ICC.

Duterte, arrested on March 11, is currently detained in The Hague for alleged crimes against humanity related to his anti-drug campaign.
