The Sunup Talented Children Development Center brought joy, creativity, and innovation together in a vibrant celebration to mark Autism International Month. The event, held on campus in Abu Dhabi, featured a heartwarming program where children dressed up as their favorite characters—from sea creatures and superheroes to beloved animated icons—highlighting their individuality and imagination.
This festive occasion wasn’t just about costumes and smiles. It also underscored Sunup’s commitment to progressive education and therapy for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). At the heart of the institution’s programs is the integration of advanced tools such as AI-powered robotics, which assist in the Tomatis auditory method—a sound-based therapy that enhances listening, speech, and cognitive focus. These robotic instructors help retrain the auditory system, improving memory and attention through dynamic interaction and personalization.
Sunup’s educational philosophy also incorporates the Kinesthetic Individualized Education Program (KIEP), which combines movement-based learning with personalized instruction. This approach is particularly impactful for children with ASD, as it uses kinesthetic learning—hands-on activities, physical engagement, and motion—to enhance comprehension, focus, and sensory regulation.
Led by Chancellor Engr. Li Schonberg, a trailblazer in robotics for autism, Sunup remains a beacon of innovation and compassion. “At Sunup, we celebrate the individuality of every child. Events like today remind us of the power of joy, inclusion, and creative expression in shaping confidence and emotional development,” said Engr. Schonberg. Recently, the center was honored with the Excellence in Special Education for Children with Determination Award at The Global Filipino Icon Awards 2025 in Dubai, where veteran journalist Kara David served as guest of honor.
Alongside team leader adviser Jomar S. Ibanez, Sunup delivers a full spectrum of therapies—including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), arts therapy, sports therapy, and the Tomatis method—tailored for children aged 4 to 16. Each session is designed around a child’s unique learning profile, fostering greater independence and holistic development.
The celebration not only brought smiles to the children and their families, but also offered parents a glimpse into the life-changing progress made possible through Sunup’s inclusive and research-driven environment.
Sunup also offers a flexible home-schooling portal, allowing families to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in the comfort of their homes—ideal for children who benefit from customized pacing and parental support.
