The Strong Group of the Philippines overcame Morocco’s AS Salé with a 92-80 victory in the quarterfinals of the Dubai International Basketball Championship on Friday. After a slow start, trailing 21-19 at the end of the first quarter, the Philippine team gained momentum and concluded the first half leading 44-36.
The team’s performance peaked in the second half, maintaining a solid lead and securing their sixth consecutive win in the tournament. Andre Roberson shone for Strong Group, nearly achieving a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Dwight Howard also made a significant contribution with 17 points and 12 rebounds. McKenzie Moore and Kevin Quiambao added to the tally with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
Despite Ramon Galloway’s impressive 27 points and Tyler Williams’ 20 points for AS Salé, it wasn’t enough to counter the Philippine team’s strong gameplay.
With this victory, Strong Group is set to face Beirut Sports Club in the semifinals, a team they previously defeated 95-73.
