Store goes viral after urging parents to stop caving into kids’ demands for P79,000 gaming laptops

A local retail shop’s candid post about students pressuring their parents to buy high-end gaming laptops has gone viral, sparking intense discussions on financial responsibility and parenting.

The post, made by LNSC Laptops, called out students who insist on purchasing expensive gaming laptops, such as the ASUS ROG model worth PHP 79,000, even when their parents struggle to afford it. The shop shared an instance where a parent requested a lower downpayment after securing only PHP 35,000 from a lending service, admitting that they only sell food for a living.

The post quickly gained traction, with many netizens weighing in on the issue. Some sympathized with the parents, urging them to set financial boundaries. One comment from Kevin Codilla read: “Grumaduate ako sa kursong BSIT na walang computer at laptop, nakiki-computer or hiram lang ako sa mga kaibigang classmates ko at sa computer shop nagrenta ako… Wag ganun kids.”

Others blamed the problem on what they call “lazy parenting.” Netizen Ryce Marie remarked: “Bunga din ng lazy parenting. Bigay hilig ang mga magulang para i-pacify ang bata pag nag tantrums… Imbes na pakalmahin, maging firm, binibigay na lang ang gusto para manahimik.”

Similarly, Jo Ey criticized parents who give in to their children’s demands, saying, “Parents, you deserve what you tolerate.”

Meanwhile, some shop owners shared similar experiences, like Roam Yow, who commented that during the pandemic, many parents were shocked when their children insisted on PHP 100,000 gaming setups despite only having a budget of PHP 30,000.

The viral post has sparked a larger conversation about financial literacy and responsible spending. Many are calling for parents to educate their children about budgeting and the value of money rather than giving in to unnecessary luxuries.
