Southeast Asian neighbors deploy air support for Philippine storm relief after Typhoon Kristine

Several Southeast Asian neighbors, including Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, have committed air resources to assist the Philippines in relief operations for areas devastated by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (internationally known as Trami), as confirmed by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

OCD Administrator and Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno announced the formal offers of support during a recent forum, detailing that these countries would deploy C-130 aircraft and large helicopters to aid in delivering relief supplies to hard-hit communities. While the Philippines has sufficient air assets, Nepomuceno expressed that any additional assistance from partner nations reinforces a spirit of solidarity.

As part of the support effort, Singapore’s Armed Forces will send a C-130 aircraft, scheduled to arrive on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Villamor Airbase to contribute to ongoing humanitarian efforts.

Additionally, Taiwan has expressed interest in extending air support to aid the relief operations. The storm has left a significant impact, with 81 reported fatalities, including 48 in CALABARZON, 28 in the Bicol Region, and isolated casualties in other regions.
