Sofronio Vasquez stirs pride with national anthem performance at SONA 2025

Sofronio Vasquez, the celebrated Season 26 winner of The Voice, captivated audiences once again—this time with a stirring performance of the Philippine national anthem at President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address.

Wearing a classic barong and slacks, the US-based Filipino singer delivered “Lupang Hinirang” before a crowd of lawmakers and top government officials, marking the formal opening of the president’s address.

His performance quickly earned praise online. Viewers described his rendition as “tindig-balahibo,” “ganda ng rendition,” and “malinaw ang lyrics,” reflecting the strong emotional connection many felt during the moment.

In a previous statement, Sofronio described the opportunity to sing at SONA as an honor and a rare privilege. “It’s a karangalan talaga to sing in front of the president, just to honor the country,” he said, adding that the moment affirmed his identity as a performer.

Earlier this year, he also sang at Malacañang for President Marcos and First Lady Liza Marcos following his historic win on the international singing competition, where he became the first Filipino and Asian male to claim the top prize.

Sofronio is set to bring his talent to the UAE as well, with a concert scheduled on September 6, 2025, at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
