‘Siya po ay mabait at matulungin’: Mother seeks justice for the death of OFW daughter in Abu Dhabi

A grieving mother from Nueva Vizcaya is calling for justice following the tragic death of her daughter, Reyna Jane Donelo-Ancheta, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) nurse in Abu Dhabi. Reyna, 32, was a resident of Purok 3, Barangay San Juan, Solano, and had only been working in the UAE for a few months before her untimely demise.

According to Reyna’s husband, Kenneth Paul Ramil Ancheta, his wife had gone missing for three days. Unable to contact her through phone calls or messages, Kenneth was alarmed when he learned from her colleagues that Reyna had not shown up for work. Shortly after, her body was discovered, RN 104.5 Bayombong reported.

Reyna’s mother, Vangie A. Lucero, a teacher at Bonfal Annex Elementary School, expressed her deep pain in an emotional interview with RN 104.5 Bayombong, saying, “Napakasakit na mawalan ng isang anak, lalo na’t sa ganitong pangyayari. Ang aking anak ay mabait at matulungin, at hindi ko matanggap ang kanyang pagkamatay.”

Reyna’s journey as an OFW began years ago when she worked in Saudi Arabia for two years before returning to the Philippines. After working at BRH for three years, she decided to return abroad, hoping to continue supporting her family and finish building their home. Vangie recounted her last conversations with her daughter, who had just started working at Al Raiaa Home Health Care in Abu Dhabi and was living in a boarding house. Reyna was scheduled to receive her first salary soon, but tragically, she never had the chance.

Yesterday, the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed Reyna’s death in a Khaleej Times report, revealing that she was involved in a car accident on Sunday night. Authorities have been in touch with the family, and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Abu Dhabi is currently handling the case. Reyna’s employer, who was the last to contact her, said she had completed her shift on Saturday and was expected to return on Sunday, but all attempts to reach her had failed.

Reyna leaves behind two young children, a 12-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter. The family is now seeking justice for her sudden death.

Her mother, Vangie, issued a heartfelt plea: “Nananawagan po ako kay President Bongbong Marcos, sana matulungan mo ang pamilya namin na makamit ang hustisya sa pagkamatay ng aking anak.”
