The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has confirmed that Shiela Leal Guo, the sister of dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, is a Chinese national. NBI Director Jaime Santiago announced on Friday that fingerprint analysis revealed Shiela’s true identity as Zhang Mier, a Chinese citizen.
Shiela Leal Guo, along with Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) incorporator Cassandra Li Ong, was detained by Indonesian authorities and returned to the Philippines on Thursday. However, Alice Guo, the former mayor, remains at large.
Santiago stated that Shiela will face charges for violating the Philippine Passport Act, as well as additional immigration-related offenses for falsely representing herself as a Filipino citizen and obtaining a Philippine passport fraudulently. Shiela also holds a Chinese passport.
Cassandra Li Ong, who possesses a Philippine passport, has not yet been charged, and the Department of Justice declined to comment on potential charges. Both women are currently in NBI custody.
Meanwhile, Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval reported that Alice Guo and her brother, Wesley Guo, are still believed to be in Indonesia, according to information from their counterparts. Alice Guo was previously confirmed to have the same fingerprints as a Chinese national named Guo Hua Ping.
