The sister of a balikbayan mother and her daughter confessed to their murder, according to Tayabas police reports to Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday. The victims, a mother who was an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) residing in Japan, and her 26-year-old daughter, had been missing for nearly a month before their bodies were discovered in a family member’s backyard.
The suspect, who is currently hospitalized after attempting suicide upon learning the discovery of the bodies, revealed to the police that she, her husband, and two other suspects were involved in the brutal beating and stabbing of the victims to death. The motive behind this heinous act is believed to be related to financial issues.
The victims had recently arrived from Japan and were last seen on February 21, 2024, shortly before their disappearance. They were staying with the suspects at the time. The first clue to their tragic fate came when their luggage, containing bloodied items and opened suitcases, was found floating in a river in the town.
As the investigation continues, three suspects, including the woman’s husband, are still at large, intensifying the search for justice in this grievous crime.
