Singapore Airlines to ban use of power banks during flights starting April 2025

Singapore Airlines will soon prohibit passengers from using power banks to charge their devices or plugging them into USB ports onboard, as part of a new safety measure taking effect on April 1, 2025.

Under the updated policy, travelers can still bring power banks in their carry-on luggage, but using them during the flight will no longer be allowed. Checked-in baggage will remain off-limits for power banks altogether.

The airline clarified that portable chargers rated up to 100 watt-hours (Wh) can be brought on board without prior approval. However, passengers carrying those with a capacity between 100Wh and 160Wh must secure clearance from the airline in advance.

Singapore Airlines said the changes align with international aviation safety regulations, particularly the IATA’s guidelines on lithium batteries, which categorize power banks as potentially hazardous materials.
