Residents of the UAE can expect rainfall in the coming days as the country transitions into summer, with showers anticipated primarily in the eastern mountainous areas.
It has been nearly a month since the last rainfall in the UAE. The country experienced various intensities of rain in early May but has remained dry since then.
Dr. Ahmed Habib, a climate expert from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), said in a Khaleej Times report on Wednesday, “We are expecting convective cloud activity around June 8-9, potentially leading to rain in the eastern mountainous regions of the UAE.”
He explained that the extension of the Indian monsoons will influence the UAE throughout much of June, with intermittent cloud development over certain areas. “All these current indicators suggest the presence of convective clouds capable of producing precipitation over the mountainous terrain in the Eastern parts,” Dr. Habib noted.
The rainfall is expected to start in Oman, with convective cloud formation observed over the region. “While the UAE is not yet fully impacted by this monsoon, it is expected to gradually experience effects,” he added.
In addition to the rainfall forecast, temperatures in the UAE have risen significantly in recent days, with the peak expected soon. Last week, the UAE recorded a high of 49.2°C, with temperatures exceeding 45°C in the days following. Dr. Habib stated, “About a week ago, temperatures began to rise across the UAE, and this trend is expected to persist over the coming weeks and months as part of the usual climate pattern. Currently, temperatures have reached 48-49°C, gradually increasing across all areas.”
Humidity levels have slightly decreased compared to May, particularly in the latter half of the month, with a reduced likelihood of fog or mist formation.
