Shorter workdays announced for private sector employees in UAE this Ramadan

Authorities in the UAE have confirmed shorter working hours for private sector employees during the holy month of Ramadan 2025. The announcement, made on Monday, February 24, aligns with the country’s labor laws, which mandate a two-hour reduction in daily work hours throughout the month.

While employers have the flexibility to adjust schedules, they must adhere to the legal limits set for Ramadan. Meanwhile, public sector employees will follow working hours set by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR), with office hours running from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM Monday to Thursday and from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Fridays.

Ramadan is expected to begin on March 1, according to the UAE’s International Astronomy Centre, based on the likely sighting of the crescent moon on the night of February 28. However, the official start date will be confirmed by moon-sighting committees on the 29th day of Shaban.
