In the world of Maritime Shipping, a Filipina stands tall, navigating the vast oceans of a predominantly male industry. Isabel Caronan Kassab, fondly known as the “Shipping Queen”, is a beacon of inspiration, showcasing Filipino resilience, intelligence, and heart.
Born and raised in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, in the Northern Philippines, Isabel’s journey to success is nothing short of extraordinary. As the eldest in a family of four professionals, she set the bar high from the start. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language under her belt, Isabel’s thirst for knowledge led her to pursue Law Studies at the esteemed Far Eastern University and University of the East in Manila.
“She lives. She dreams. She dares. She survives,” Isabel fondly recalls of her younger years.
Her journey into the shipping industry was self-paved, born from a combination of youthful determination and a passion for her craft.
“At an early age, I braved the world of challenges in the corporate sector,” she tells The Global Filipino Magazine.
Committed to excellence, Isabel further honed her expertise through studies in Shipping Business and Management, Shipping Logistics, and Maritime Law.
Now, as the Operations Manager and head of the Legal Department of Kassab Inter-Shipping LLC, Isabel’s role is pivotal. The family-owned enterprise, with its impressive fleet of cargo vessels, motor tankers, and towage vessels, trades worldwide, testament to Isabel’s leadership and the team’s commitment to excellence.
A life lived with passion
Behind the impressive titles and accolades lies a woman of deep substance. Isabel’s life is a tapestry of roles — a dedicated wife to Capt. Abed Kassab, a Swedish-Lebanese businessman and the CEO of Kassab Inter Shipping; a loving mother to their two children, Karim and Joud; and an ardent supporter of women’s rights and achievements.
However, life hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Isabel.
“I bravely fought the BIG-C in 2021,” she reveals.
Through sheer determination, the unwavering support of her family, and a steadfast faith, Isabel emerged victorious and is now cancer-free.
“Indeed, God is good, and prayers truly work,” she affirms.
But Isabel’s fight didn’t stop with her recovery. Recognizing the importance of gratitude and giving back, she champions cancer awareness, supporting women and children battling the disease.
Additionally, she extends her advocacy to non-profit organizations emphasizing gender equality and celebrating women’s achievements.
“She is a woman, a wife, a mother with an insurmountable passion for her craft,” and as Isabel’s story demonstrates, she is also a beacon for countless others, guiding the way with her heart and mind. Her journey, marked by resilience, passion, and love, truly makes her special, a gem in both the maritime world and beyond.
