Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, has greenlit the designs for two state-of-the-art stadiums for the Shabab Al Ahli and Al Wasl football clubs. Positioned in Al Rawayyah 3 and Al Jaddaf respectively, each venue will boast a 20,000-seat capacity, catering to the clubs’ future needs and aiming to expand their fanbases and support local talent development.
The Shabab Al Ahli stadium will feature an innovative design with a circular roof that resembles the Moon, supported by columns, and surrounded by green spaces and pedestrian areas. This avant-garde structure will incorporate eco-friendly systems and align with Dubai’s smart city aspirations.
Similarly, the Al Wasl stadium is conceived with sustainability at its core, encompassed by green areas and complemented by several sports fields. These projects are part of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33’s ambition to elevate Dubai as a prime destination for regional and global sports, reflecting the city’s ongoing evolution in the sports sector and commitment to fostering sporting excellence and expanding the fan community.
Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, highlighted the initiative’s role in enhancing the facilities of Dubai’s football clubs, which are considered some of the most prestigious in the region, thus promoting their growth strategies and nurturing upcoming talent.
Although the completion timeline and financial details of the projects are yet to be disclosed, Mattar Al Tayer, the Commissioner General of Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Well-being Pillar and Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, confirmed that a specialized firm would oversee the construction. This development is set to contribute significantly to Dubai’s sports economy, which already adds Dh4 billion ($1.08 billion) annually, while supporting the city’s broader sports infrastructure and the increasing popularity of sports academies and fitness centers.
