Sharon Cuneta and her husband, former senator Kiko Pangilinan, filed a cyber libel complaint against showbiz talk show host Cristy Fermin on Friday at the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office. The couple claims they faced “humiliation and ridicule” after Fermin allegedly made slanderous statements about them.
“Our clients have endured repeated online attacks against their family, which are totally unacceptable. It is time to make her answerable for her criminal behavior,” said a spokesperson from BSR Law, the couple’s legal firm.
Fermin, on her show ‘Cristy FerMinute,’ acknowledged the rising number of libel suits against her, including those from other celebrities such as Sarah Lahbati and Bea Alonzo. “The lawsuits are piling up. After Bea Alonzo and now Sharon Cuneta, who’s next, Julia Roberts? While I understand where these are coming from, we have yet to receive more information,” Fermin commented on her program.
The complaint comes in the wake of similar legal actions by Bea Alonzo, who alleged that Fermin and co-host Ogie Diaz broadcast baseless and harmful information about her sourced from an anonymous critic. Alonzo’s legal actions also extended to their continued defamation in various media formats.
The legal representatives of Cuneta and Pangilinan expressed confidence in the prompt resolution of the case by the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office.
