Megastar Sharon Cuneta and veteran columnist-TV host Cristy Fermin have officially reconciled, putting an end to a legal battle that once strained their relationship.
On July 8, Sharon and her husband, Senator Kiko Pangilinan, withdrew the cyberlibel complaint they filed against Cristy in May 2024. The three were seen together at court, finalizing the decision to drop the case following a heartfelt conversation and a public apology from the columnist.
Ogie Diaz, a fellow showbiz personality, broke the news via Facebook, sharing a photo of the trio with the caption, “Nakakatuwa. Okay na sila ngayon.” He recalled that the cyberlibel case stemmed from Cristy’s controversial comments, which Sharon and Kiko claimed were baseless and hurtful.
According to Ogie, Cristy took accountability through her YouTube channel, stating, “Kung nakapanakit tayo ng kalooban, marunong naman tayong humingi ng tawad.” He also highlighted Cristy’s belief in the power of personal dialogue: “Hindi naman sa korte lang lagi ang lugar para ipaglaban ang karapatan at katotohanan. Pwede namang mag-usap nang puso-sa-puso.”
The conflict originally sparked after Sharon and Kiko accused Cristy of making defamatory remarks against their family. At the time, Cristy responded by acknowledging that such legal threats are part of a journalist’s territory, remarking, “Kapag ikaw ay nasa ganyang mga linya katulad naming mga mamamahayag, naku, teritoryal po ang mga ganitong kaso.”
Cristy, known for her outspoken commentary, also noted the rising number of libel cases in the entertainment industry, joking, “From Sarah Lahbati to Bea Alonzo, Sharon Cuneta na ang kasunod. Sino po kaya ang susunod? Si Julia Roberts na?”
