The Sharjah government has successfully paid off over Dh1.150 billion in debt for its citizens through a dedicated communication channel called ‘Mabara.’ This initiative, introduced by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, aims to provide direct assistance to those in financial distress.
‘Mabara’ was established after it became clear that some debt cases were too sensitive to be addressed through standard public communication methods. This led to the formation of the Sharjah Citizens Debt Relief Committee, which facilitated the settlement of these debts.
Speaking at the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024), Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, emphasized the importance of flexible government communication. He highlighted that the ‘Direct Line’ program, launched on radio and television, was initially intended to connect the government with the public but had its limitations. As a result, ‘Mabara’ was created to handle delicate situations more privately and effectively.
The forum, which focuses on innovative communication strategies and agile governance, saw discussions on how traditional values and modern technology can be harmonized to improve government operations and responsiveness to public needs.
