Sharjah public sector may enjoy six-day break for Eid Al Fitr

Sharjah government employees are set to enjoy an extended Eid Al Fitr break, with the possibility of a six-day holiday depending on the Moon sighting.

The Sharjah Government’s Department of Human Resources confirmed that the holiday will run from Shawwal 1 to Shawwal 3, 1446 AH. Public sector employees will return to work on Shawwal 4, except for those on shift schedules.

If Eid Al Fitr falls on Sunday, March 30, the break will last five days, from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1. However, if the festival begins on Monday, March 31, employees will have a six-day holiday, extending until Wednesday, April 2.

Sharjah follows a four-day workweek with a three-day weekend, which has been in place since January 2022. This means government employees in the emirate will have a longer holiday compared to other parts of the UAE.

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources had earlier announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday for the public sector across the country. The official Moon sighting will take place on March 29 to confirm the start of Eid, marking the end of Ramadan.
