Sharjah private schools told to adjust Ramadan hours, with classes capped at six hours

Private schools in Sharjah will be allowed to adjust their daily schedules during the holy month of Ramadan, with the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) granting institutions the flexibility to decide their own start and end times, as long as the school day does not exceed six hours.

According to Emarat Al Youm, SPEA instructed schools to ensure that any schedule changes take into account the different needs of each educational level, while maintaining a reasonable balance between academic demands and the unique nature of the month.

The guidance was included in an official circular addressed to private school administrations, which Emarat Al Youm reviewed. The circular stated that schools must organise Ramadan timings in accordance with the curriculum they implement and the academic calendar approved by SPEA.

SPEA said the measures are intended to ensure that learning continues without disruption, while maintaining the quality and effectiveness of the educational process. The authority also highlighted the importance of organising the school day fairly and flexibly, while considering students’ academic needs and psychological well-being at each level.

The authority further urged schools to prioritise quality of life by taking into account the circumstances of students, families, and the wider school community throughout Ramadan, in line with the social and humanitarian values associated with the holy month.

Emarat Al Youm reported that SPEA extended greetings to the education sector ahead of Ramadan, expressing hopes for continued success and reaffirming its commitment to balancing academic requirements with the health and well-being of students and their families.

SPEA also expressed appreciation for school administrations’ cooperation and compliance with the guidelines aimed at ensuring a supportive and balanced learning environment during Ramadan.
