Sharjah Police revealed that 267 traffic accidents have been reported since the start of the year, all linked to motorists using their mobile phones while driving. The incidents resulted in injuries and varying degrees of property damage.
In a statement posted on social media, authorities said each case represents a “painful story” that could have been prevented had drivers kept their focus on the road.
Police warned that even a few seconds of distraction — whether from texting, scrolling, or taking a photo — can lead to devastating consequences. They reminded the public that using a phone while driving remains one of the primary causes of road accidents in the emirate.
Officials urged drivers to comply with traffic rules, maintain full attention on the road, and wait until they have safely stopped before checking their phones. “The road is not a place for browsing,” the police emphasized, ending their message with a stark reminder: “Don’t be the next statistic.”
