Sharjah’s Executive Council has introduced new rules allowing prisoners to be granted conditional release under specific circumstances. Announced on Tuesday, the guidelines enable inmates to seek parole after completing three-fourths of their sentence, with restrictions applied for a period of at least one month.
For those serving life sentences, eligibility for conditional release begins after 20 years in prison, Khaleej Times reported.
All decisions regarding parole will require approval from the Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, with the emirate’s public prosecution subsequently notified.
The policy also details conditions for release, reasons for potential cancellation, and procedures for enforcement and publication.
