The Sharjah government has confirmed a four-day weekend for its employees to celebrate the New Year. This decision comes after the Department of Human Resources declared Monday, January 1, 2024, as an official holiday for all government departments, bodies, and institutions within the emirate.
Government sector employees in Sharjah can look forward to a prolonged break, as work will only resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. This extended weekend provides an opportunity for government staff to enjoy the New Year festivities with their families and friends.
This announcement follows a similar declaration made last week by the federal government and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. They announced January 1 as a public holiday for both the public and private sectors, translating to a three-day weekend for most employees across the country.
In addition, the Dubai authority has also joined in declaring January 1, 2024, as a paid holiday for its government sector. This move is seen as a gesture of goodwill and celebration, allowing employees to fully engage in New Year celebrations.
