Sharjah Airport launches direct flights to Maldives

Sharjah Airport and Air Arabia have launched the first direct flights from Sharjah to the Maldives, set to begin on October 27. This new route, using Airbus A320 aircraft, will operate daily flights between Sharjah Airport and Velana International Airport in Malé, offering travelers seamless access to the tropical islands.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), highlighted the new route as a testament to Sharjah Airport’s commitment to enhancing regional aviation and fostering stronger UAE-Maldives relations. He noted in a Khaleej Times report, “Maldives is a top global destination, and this addition motivates us to improve services for passengers seeking direct access to these islands.”

Air Arabia’s CEO, Adel Al Ali, expressed excitement about the new connection, calling it “an exciting chapter in our network expansion.” He emphasized Air Arabia’s commitment to providing affordable travel and more options for customers to explore international destinations.

Sharjah Airport’s strategic plan aims to expand its annual capacity to 25 million passengers through partnerships, increased flights, and more international routes. Al Midfa reaffirmed this goal, stating that Sharjah Airport is dedicated to broadening its presence globally.
