‘Service over comfort’: First Lady honors Coast Guard personnel

First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in commemorating its 124th founding anniversary, standing in honor of the men and women she described as defenders of the nation’s shores.

“So proud to be part of the Philippine Coast Guard honor family!” she said in a statement.

Mrs. Marcos, who became part of the PCG Auxiliary in 2024 and now holds the rank of Auxiliary Vice Admiral, expressed deep admiration for the sacrifices of Coast Guard personnel.

“To stand beside the brave men and women who choose service over comfort, duty over fear, and country above self is such an honor!” she remarked.

During the ceremony, she accompanied President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who led the awarding of exemplary members recognized for professionalism, dedication, and outstanding performance. Honors were given for categories including District of the Year, Station of the Year, Sub-Station of the Year, Ship of the Year, Small Aircraft of the Year, and several individual awards for both uniformed and non-uniformed personnel.

“Congrats to our awardees and to the entire PCG! You serve with courage, heart and pride. Happy 124th anniversary to our Philippine Coast Guard,” the First Lady said.
