Sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ announced; Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt likely to return

Eighteen years after “The Devil Wears Prada” captivated audiences, Disney has officially announced a sequel, with Aline Brosh McKenna, the original screenwriter, returning to adapt it. While there’s no confirmation on the original cast’s return, hints suggest that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt may reprise their roles as Miranda Priestley and Emily Charlton, respectively.

This announcement follows the debut of a musical adaptation in London’s West End, featuring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestley and new music by Elton John.

The sequel’s storyline will explore Miranda Priestley’s career in the modern-day, amidst the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She will clash with Emily Charlton, now a powerful executive at a luxury group, as they compete for advertising revenue.

Although there’s no word on whether Anne Hathaway or other original cast members like Stanley Tucci and Simon Baker will return, fans are eagerly anticipating updates. The original film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, was a surprising box office success, grossing $326.7 million worldwide.

Wendy Finerman, who produced the original film, is set to produce the sequel. Despite previous reluctance from the stars to participate in a sequel based on Weisberger’s follow-up novel, “Revenge Wears Prada,” the new film promises to bring fresh excitement to the beloved franchise.
