South Korean actor and singer Seo In Guk has been officially named as the Philippines’ new tourism ambassador. The Department of Tourism (DoT) formalized the partnership with a memorandum of understanding signed on Friday.
Seo, widely recognized for his roles in Reply 1997, The Master’s Sun, and Hello Monster, will play a key role in showcasing the Philippines as a must-visit destination, particularly to South Korean travelers. DoT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco emphasized the impact of Seo’s global influence in promoting the country’s attractions through digital platforms.
“Mr. Seo In Guk’s artistry has cultivated a deep connection with Filipino fans and audiences worldwide, making him an ideal representative to share the wonders of the Philippines,” Frasco said.
South Korea remains the top source of foreign tourists for the Philippines, with about 1.5 million South Koreans visiting in 2024. Frasco highlighted how this collaboration aligns with the DoT’s strategy to tap into pop culture and digital media to expand the country’s tourism reach.
Seo expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with the role. “Filipinos have given me so much love, and I want to give back by ensuring they are satisfied with my future activities,” he said.
Currently in the Philippines for the filming of his upcoming drama Boyfriend On Demand alongside Blackpink’s Jisoo, Seo also shared his fond memories of Cebu, particularly enjoying lechon and experiencing Filipino hospitality.
The partnership between Seo In Guk and the DoT is set to last for a year, with various promotional efforts aimed at strengthening the Philippines’ appeal to South Korean travelers.
