Eric Negapatan, a senatorial aspirant, made a bold promise on Wednesday to recover the alleged Marcos family wealth, which he claimed amounted to “800 quadrillion pesos.” This substantial figure, according to Negapatan, is reportedly hidden somewhere in London and would be distributed to Filipinos to cover basic needs.
“Wala nang bibili ng bigas. Wala nang bibili ng tubig. Wala nang magbabayad ng kuryente,” Negapatan stated in his speech after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Manila Hotel Garden City.
Negapatan’s campaign promise has drawn comparisons to the debunked Tallano Gold claims, a conspiracy theory involving an immense fortune supposedly linked to the Marcos family. He claimed that he inherited the wealth from Doña Josefa Marcos, the mother of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., during his time as her servant in Batac City, Ilocos Norte.
“Ang lahat ng ito ay iniwan sa akin. So, sa madaling sabi, ang inilagay dito ay hindi Marcos,” he asserted, adding that if the wealth had indeed belonged to the Marcoses, the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) would have already recovered it.
Negapatan previously ran for president in 2016 and 2022, as well as for a senatorial position in 2019, but he was declared a nuisance candidate in all his previous bids. Despite his controversial claims, he expressed confidence in his ability to bring the alleged wealth back to the country and improve the lives of Filipinos.
