Senate sets tentative impeachment trial schedule for VP Sara Duterte

Senate President Francis Escudero has informed his fellow senators of the proposed timeline for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, should proceedings move forward.

Based on the suggested schedule, the Senate will resume its session on June 2, 2025, during which the Articles of Impeachment will be presented by the prosecutors. This will also include the approval of revised rules for impeachment trials.

The Impeachment Court is set to convene the following day, June 3, 2025, with incumbent senator-judges taking their oath. Summons will be issued on June 4, while pleadings will be received from June 14 to 24.

The pre-trial phase is planned from June 24 to July 25, followed by the inaugural session of the 20th Congress on July 28, where lawmakers will also attend the President’s State of the Nation Address. Newly elected senator-judges will be sworn in on July 29 before the Senate sits as an Impeachment Court.

The trial is expected to begin on July 30, 2025, running from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
