The Senate has approved resolutions honoring former President and Senator Joseph Ejercito Estrada and his wife, former Senator Luisa “Loi” Ejercito Estrada, for their significant contributions to the country.
Introduced by Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, the resolutions commend the Estradas for their decades-long service in politics, healthcare, and social welfare.
Joseph Estrada, who served as president, vice president, senator, and mayor, was acknowledged for his leadership and public service. Before entering politics, he built a successful career in the film industry, starring in over 100 movies. His passion for cinema led to the establishment of the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, Inc. (Mowelfund), a non-profit supporting film industry workers. His tenure as Mayor of San Juan City saw improvements in education, infrastructure, and healthcare, earning him the title of Outstanding Mayor.
Meanwhile, Loi Ejercito Estrada, a medical doctor and former senator, was recognized for her work in government hospitals and healthcare initiatives. She trained in medical institutions in Australia before returning to the Philippines, where she set up a mental health department in Davao. As the country’s first lady, she was actively involved in humanitarian projects, including the Masa ang Riwasa ni Erap (MARE) Foundation, which supports medical and social welfare programs for underprivileged Filipinos.
