Senate gears up logistics, security for impeachment trial of Vice President Duterte

Senate President Francis Escudero has directed administrative preparations for the Senate’s upcoming role as an impeachment court in the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Escudero issued Special Order 2025-015, appointing the Senate Secretary as Clerk of Court, responsible for administrative duties, including documentation, serving notices and summons, managing court schedules, administering oaths, and overseeing security measures during the proceedings.

The Office of the Senate Legal Counsel and the Deputy Secretary for Legislation have been designated as Deputy Clerks of Court, with clearly defined support roles. The Sergeant At Arms is tasked with serving subpoenas and summonses, ensuring courtroom security, and maintaining order.

Additionally, the Senate Secretary is empowered to release further administrative guidelines as needed. The Administrative and Financial Service has separately requested Senate offices to submit budgetary requirements for the trial, subject to the approval of the Senate Secretary.
