The Senate on Thursday moved quickly to finalize the proposed 2026 funding for the Office of the Vice President, ending discussions almost as soon as they began. The chamber gave its approval to the P889 million allocation after no member raised any objections.
The brief exchange unfolded during the plenary session, where Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito sought the immediate termination of the budget deliberations. His motion proceeded without debate, prompting Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III to sign off on the decision.
Vice President Sara Duterte was present in the session hall as the approval was made, personally representing her office during the proceedings.
The figure adopted by the Senate matched the recommendation earlier put forward by the committee on finance, which suggested raising the OVP’s funding for 2026 from the P733.198 million contained in the House-approved General Appropriations Bill to P889.236 million.
