Sen. Cynthia Villar considers Las Piñas mayoral run in 2025 elections

Sen. Cynthia Villar announced on Wednesday that she is contemplating running for a local position in the 2025 elections. Currently serving her second consecutive term as senator, Villar is constitutionally barred from seeking re-election next year.

Villar is considering a run for mayor of Las Piñas, her home turf, but is also open to returning to her previous role as the city’s congressional representative in the House of Representatives. “I am still evaluating if I will win or if I will just lose,” Villar remarked at the Kapihan sa Manila Hotel forum when asked about the possibility of running for mayor. She also expressed that running for the House is an option she finds agreeable.

Discussing the factors influencing her decision, Villar noted, “Local positions allow me to help our town directly, while national positions enable me to contribute to policy-making, which is more feasible in the House of Representatives. I will decide when the time comes.”

Villar’s daughter, Camille, currently holds the congressional seat but plans to run for the Senate, as announced by the senator’s husband, former Senate President Manny Villar. Camille is in her second term as a congresswoman.

Sen. Villar is part of the influential Aguilar clan, which has a long history of leadership in Las Piñas.
